Global EducationThrough global education, you will gain a deeper understanding of the many issues facing much of the world and possible solutions.
SponsorshipThrough fundraising planning and implementation, you will develop leadership and organizational skills, while playing a key role in bringing education to students living in Malawi, Africa
Who's Making Your Mark for?
The Making Your Mark (MYM) program is open to anyone that is interested in making a difference in the world in which they live. This includes, but is not limited to, college groups, youth groups, middle schools, elementary schools, as well as high schools.
The various levels of participation include:
Making Your Mark Student ClubsEstablish your own Making Your Mark Students Club focusing on the 3 components of the program - Service Projects, Global Education, and Sponsorship - using all the resources found in the MYM binder.
Existing Service ClubsAlready involved with a service-type club? Feel free to enlist your groups' help by sponsoring one of Taking Back Lives Malawi programs through raising funds. Take advantage of the Making Your Mark resources to broaden your understanding of global issues by incorporating activities found in the MYM binder into your club's meetings.
ClassroomsTeachers can increase their students' understanding of issues faced by people in developing nations by incorporating Global Education activities and resources into their curriculum. Utilizing the tools found in the MYM binder, classrooms can design and implement their very own fundraising projects to raise money for Taking Back Lives and its mission.
What Taking Back Lives provides
1. The Making Your Mark binder with everything you will need to run your club efficiently and effectively, including:
- Start-up sequence and checklist to get your club started
- Sample meeting agendas and event planning worksheets
- Fundraising ideas and resources
- Community service opportunities
- Global Education resources
2. Opportunity to sponsor one of our many Malawi programs, such as:
- Classroom Building projects
- Scholarship Program for students wishing to continue their education beyond primary school
- Adult Literacy and education courses
3. Updates from Taking Back Lives programs here at home and in Malawi
4. Support and assistance with Club activities
Expectations of Club Members
- Decide on a day and time for your club to meet
- Determine leadership roles
- Select and be involved in community service projects as decided by your club
- Learn about developing countries such as Malawi through Global Education activities
- Organize and participate in sponsorship/fundraising projects
- Maintain regular communication with Taking Back Lives staff about your activities
